Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “God the Almighty always sends calamities upon a believer. He cannot sleep one night and wake up the next morning without any problems. Either he gets ill or he has a family or financial problem or suffers from a natural disaster. All these are so that God can give him a reward instead.”

Hadith #1712 from the book Mishkatul anwar fi ghurur il akhbar

Imam Baqir (a.s) narrated that once when Moses (a.s) left the house, he met one of the Israelites. He went to Mount Tur with him and asked him to sit down until he returned. He drew a circle around him and raised his head towards the sky and said: “I entrust You with my friend. You are the best Guardian.” Then he left. Then he went away and made supplications to God in a truly spiritual way. When he returned, he saw that a lion had attacked his friend, torn him into pieces, and eaten him up. Then Moses (a.s) raised his head towards the sky and said: “O’ God! I entrusted him with You because You are the best Guardian. But You sent your worst beast to attack him, kill him, tear him into pieces and eat him up!” A revelation came: “O’ Moses! Your friend had a rank in Heaven that he could not attain otherwise. O’ Moses! Look!” Then the curtains of the Unseen were drawn aside and Moses (a.s) looked on and saw his friend in an exalted house. Then Moses said: “O’ Lord! I am pleased.”

Hadith #1718 from the book Mishkatul anwar fi ghurur il akhbar

Jabir narrates that Imam Baqir (as) said to me “Oh Jabir, does it suffice that a person claims to be Shia and that he says he loves us, the Ahl ul bayt (as)? By Allah! No one is our Shia except that he has piety for Allah (guards himself against sin) and obeys Him. They (shia) are not known or recognized except for their humility, modesty, fear of Allah, submission, trust worthiness, abundantly remembering Allah, fasting, prayers, kindness to the parents, looking after the poor, neighbors, afflicted people, the indebted ones and the orphans. Speaking the truth, reciting the Holy Quran, restraining their tongue about people except mentioning them with goodness and beneficence and they are the trustees for their tribes in all the affairs.”

USUL AL KAFI VOL 2. P 84

May Allah grant us all these qualities of a true Shia of Imam Hujjah (may Allah hasten his return).
