Salaam Shiekh, I just had a question about this narration. Does the actual translation/narration use the word “references?” because during the time of Imam Ali (as), wasn’t the only hadith book Kitab Sulaym ibn Qays? So I was wondering why the word reference would be used if books of hadith weren’t really written yet? I’m assuming maybe what is meant is the chain of narrators? But can you clear this up for me? Thank you!

Wa alaykum salam,
The original hadith is as follows:
It says to mention the Hadith with its Isnad.
